    did you use a filter i guess to get the stars?

    yeah it should do it right out of the camera, it might be a tad different depending on the lights and the lens but you should get the same effect. it also depends on the shutter speed. most of these were 3-5 second exposures.

    I really like that second photo.

    The 'star' effect comes from using a (relatively) small aperture for a low light, long exposure shot. The light from the street lamps actually diffuse around the edges of the individual aperture blades in the lens which gives the star shape.

    Chad, did you try any rear curtain sync shots that night?

    ah good info! i did not know all that

    i have never once since i hav had my D90 tried the rear curtain sysnc flash option, it might have helped pull some of the details out.
